We are a group of postgraduate students at the Philosophy department of the University of Essex. Even though, as women, we feel welcomed and supported in this department, we are aware of the sexism in Philosophy as a whole, and feel it is important to raise awareness of this and do what we can to combat it.
Our preliminary aims are:
- Promoting awareness of female philosophers who have been overlooked in (the history of) philosophy.
- Setting up a reading group where we will read both literature about women in philosophy and from female philosophers.
- Creating an "alternative discouse" seminar series, where students can learn more about non-traditional forms of philosophy and philosophers.
- Creating a safe space for female philosophers to talk about their experiences as women in philosophy.
